LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Executive Board of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC) met Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the ABSC building in Little Rock.
The Executive Board is made up of the representatives from affiliated churches within each association voted on by the messengers at the Annual Meeting. The representation is determined by numbers reported by churches on the previous year’s Annual Church Profile. They meet throughout the year and oversee the affairs of the convention.
The meeting was called to order by Board President Jeff Paxton, who led the group in scripture and prayer. ABSC Interim Executive Director Rex Horne then shared a few words and welcomed everybody to the gathering.
Attendees heard updates from various agencies and institutions, including Williams Baptist University, Ouachita Baptist University, Arkansas Baptist Children & Family Ministries and Camp Siloam. Additionally, board members heard testimonies from three Baptist Collegiate Ministry campus ministers as well as new ABSC team members.
The Executive Board also heard 2022 annual reports from ABSC Director of Convention Administration Marcus Brown. ABSC Controller Scott Hendren and Nathan Poston of Landmark CPA presented the 2022 audit report. Articles and Bylaws Committee Chairman Jay Shell also provided an update on proposed revisions to be voted on by messengers at the 2023 Annual Meeting.
The 2023 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Oct. 24-25 at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro. The 2023 ABSC Pastors’ Conference is Oct. 23.
Board members were also reminded of the Dixie Jackson Arkansas Missions Offering and Week of Prayer, which is Sept.10-17.
