Brad Lewter to be nominated for president of Arkansas Baptist State Convention

Fort Smith pastor Brad Lewter will be nominated to serve as president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC) during the Annual Meeting set for Oct. 24-25 in Jonesboro.

Nettleton Baptist Church Senior Pastor Brady Canright said he intends to nominate Lewter, who has been pastor of Grand Avenue Baptist since 2013.

Brad has been a great friend, supporter, and help for me over the years. We share a mutual love and concern for the state of our convention both at the national level and the state level. He will lead, serve, and represent Arkansas Baptists well in this role,” Canright said.

“Brad brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, having been a senior pastor, student pastor, college pastor, family pastor, young singles pastor, and teaching pastor. He has served as a member of the Executive Board of the ABSC, a trustee for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a moderator and Executive Committee member of the Concord Baptist Association, and chairman of the Arkansas Baptist Sexual Abuse Task Force. It is my honor to nominate my friend, Brad Lewter.”

Lewter has served in full-time ministry since 1998 in churches in Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas. He attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Luther Rice Seminary and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary pursing a Doctor of Ministry.

Under Lewter’s leadership, Grand Avenue gives 8.85 percent in undesignated receipts through the Cooperative Program. Last year, that amounted to approximately $258,606.

Lewter said he is “honored” to be considered and nominated for the role of Arkansas Baptist State Convention president.

“My posture with any denominational work has always been, I don’t seek it, but if I am called upon then I am willing to do my part. I’ve always been willing to do whatever I can do to help our convention grow stronger and if that means a leadership role like this, I am happy to do it,” he said. “For me, it is just a love for our state and our convention, and I want to serve it and do everything I can to help.”

Lewter and his wife, Kati, have been married since 2004. They have three children, Lana Kate, Layton and Lola.
