Arkansas Baptist women get refreshed in God’s Word

JONESBORO, Ark. –Arkansas Baptist women from across the state were refreshed in God’s word during the Ministers’ Wives Conference on Monday at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

The women were led in worship by Cory and Stephanie Epps, and the keynote speaker was Arkansas Baptist State Convention Women’s Ministry Specialist Andrea Lennon, who spoke on being “refreshed in life and ministry.”

Lennon’s message was centered on Romans 15:13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

“As we look at this passage of scripture, we are going to see no matter the situation or circumstance that we face that God’s hope, His peace, and His power are available to us through an abiding and trusting relationship with God through Jesus Christ,” Lennon told the ladies in attendance.

Lennon said her prayer for Monday’s event was for the women who are struggling, who may think they cannot be refreshed in life and ministry, to get a fresh view on God and a fresh view on their circumstances.

“We looked at Romans 15:13 and that particular verse really talks about trusting God in the midst of the unknown and knowing that His power is available to us no matter the situation that we face,” Lennon said.

“That was my prayer. That was my hope. I wanted the women to be loved and encouraged and for them to walk away with the truth of God’s word applied to their everyday life.”

Following Lennon’s words of encouragement, the women discussed obstacles they encounter within ministry and how they might find the rhythm and the balance between home and church and the burden and heaviness sometimes carried by their husbands.

Tammy Albrecht, worship minister and wife of First Baptist Church in DeWitt Pastor Jimmy Albrecht, called the conference “encouraging.”

“It is very encouraging to get to talk to other people who are going through what you are going through,” Albrecht said, adding the event was also a reminder that “we need to rely on the Lord and not on ourselves.”

The Ministers’ Wives Encouragement Team is comprised by Renee Bond, First Southern Baptist Church in Bryant; Aubri Duran, Indian Springs Baptist Church in Bryant; Cheryl Harp, Lakeview Baptist Church in Cave Springs; Judy Lattimore, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Dermott; Sara Mills, Friendship Baptist Church in Conway; and Beverly Newborn, Hillcrest Community Church in North Little Rock.

The Ministers’ Wives Conference was held prior to the 170th Annual Meeting of the ABSC, Oct. 24-25. A livestream of the Annual Meeting can be found here
