CLARENDON, Ark. – First Baptist Church in Clarendon has launched a new ministry inspired by the heart of God to aid and minister to the community.
Through its Hearts to Hands Ministry, it is the church’s desire to love and fulfill the basic needs of their neighbors as best as possible. Pastor John Cook said the ministry is centered on Mark 12:30-31, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”
The ministry is two-fold. First, they want to share God’s love and aid people in times of need.
“We want to love God (and share that love), love others, serve others, and give abundantly to a community that we care about and are a part of. We know emergencies, disasters, job loss, custody situations, financial hardships, evictions, and domestic issues happen,” FBC Clarendon shared in a February Facebook post. “We want to help, to be a place where you can find a little relief. As donations allow, we have clothes, baby items, toiletries, home goods, décor, kitchen ware, coats, shoes, undergarments, etc. available. If you have a dire need that we do not have in our donations, we can take your information and see if we can help find it. This service is free—a gift from our hearts to your hands, in Christ’s love.”
The ministry is 100% donation driven.
Additionally, the church hosts a community-wide yard sale on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon. Clothing items will be marked from 25 cents to one dollar with other items likely available. The church held the first sale on Saturday, March 2. Cook said they sold 813 items.
