Missions discipleship has been a major focus in recent years at Iglesia Bautista Nueva Jerusalén.
Utilizing resources made available by the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), Diana Rodriguez, church member and president of Arkansas Hispanic WMU, said she has loved seeing the children learn about missions, missionaries and missions work around the world.
“They are more aware of it, and it is very good to see the kids interested and praying and supporting missions,” Rodriguez said. “It’s teaching them there is more than just whatever goes on in the four walls of our church.”
In December, the youth in the church’s missions discipleship classes – Mission Friends, Children in Action, Girls in Action, Royal Ambassadors, etc. – held a bake sale and contest to raise money for the 2024 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. One hundred percent of gifts given through Lottie Moon support missionary presence around the world. This was the second year for the cooking contest. The children concocted sweet treats, and whichever group raised the most money for the Christmas offering won a small prize. The winner this year was Mission Friends.
In all, the children collected $1,677 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for international missions.
“It’s just been a blessing for our church. The missions discipleship resources from the WMU teach our children about missions and make them more aware of the mission work and things they can do to help support. Lottie Moon, we talk about her a lot and what she did,” Rodriguez said.
WMU provides resources for all ages designed to help make disciples of Jesus who live on mission.
