Following a winter system that brought a significant, high-impact combination of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain, causing widespread power outages and dangerous driving conditions – Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief (ABDR) has deployed to Delhi, Louisiana.
ABDR Director Randy Garrett said their main Disaster Relief site is at First Baptist Church in Delhi with a satellite location at Providence Baptist Church in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
ABDR assessors and chaplains are finding most work north and east of Delhi, over into the area around Lake Providence. Garrett said they may take work requests extending into Mississippi. He noted they have not agreed to go too far into Mississippi but will “take care of those along the state line.” Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri will also be sending resources. “This is going to be an all-hands-on deployment.”
By Saturday, Garrett said 72 Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers will be on the ground in Louisiana, including feeding and chainsaw units.
“When disaster strikes, Arkansas stands up for our neighbors in times of need,” he said. “I am really proud of the response from all our folks in Arkansas.”
