[Perspective] Big, Bold Prayers

“Prayer can do anything God can do, and God can do anything.” Adrian Rogers

Spring is beginning to be in full swing here at Camp Siloam. Grass is beginning to green, trees are budding, and the creek is bubbling through the property. It will not be long before the grounds here are filled with the sounds of campers again. As I look at my calendar, I see that 85 summer staff members will arrive in a couple of months. We are also preparing for the arrival of more than 7,500 campers this summer. In fact, this summer is showing signs that it will be the biggest summer that Camp Siloam has had in over 30 years.

Every December, I choose a verse to focus on throughout the coming year for every area of my life. This year I found myself drawn again and again to Ephesians 3:20-21 which says:

“20 Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (CSB)

One Sunday, while sitting in church, my pastor asked a question that has stayed with me: “Why are you scared to ask the Lord for big, bold prayers?” I wrestled with that for several days. Eventually, I came to a simple resolution, and that is; to not shy away from asking the Lord for big and bold things according to His will.

As we stepped into the new year at Camp Siloam, that conviction about prayer has carried with me. At our first staff meeting, I shared Ephesians 3:20-21 with our staff. Together we began to discuss what big bold things we could be praying to the Lord on behalf of Camp Siloam. We have created a “bold prayers” list that we update and pray for weekly.

One of those bold prayers is for 8,000 campers to come to camp this summer. These numbers aren’t something for us to boast about; each one represents a person who will hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and have a chance to respond.

What if, out of those 8,000 we would see 1,000 campers decide to trust Jesus as their Savior and Lord? Could we see generations of sin and bondage be broken? Could we see families restored by the grace of the Gospel? Would the Lord raise up a mighty multitude of ministers and missionaries who heard the call and answered while they were at Camp Siloam?

He is able to do above and beyond all that we can think or imagine.

We want to see the Lord do what only He can do, and He can do anything! So, we invite you to join us, and to ask the Lord to move in mighty ways at Camp Siloam this summer.
