“Specifically we are praying that the pastor’s passion for the Word will be renewed so that he will be well-fed and so that he can preach from the overflow,” said Dave Hughey, senior pastor, Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, Little Rock, and president of the ABSC Pastors’ Conference.

Pastors’ Conference speakers are Hughey; David Allen, dean of the School of Preaching, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas; Mike Spradlin, president, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, Cordova, Tenn.; H.B. Charles, senior pastor, Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., and Steve Gaines, senior pastor, Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis. Both Allen and Spradlin will preach and lead a workshop.

The workshops are a new feature at this year’s Pastors’ Conference. “This year we are offering two workshops, Preparing the Sermon and Preparing the Preacher. We want to offer very practical helps enabling pastors to prepare their own hearts for what the Lord wants to do in them and to prepare a biblically sound text-driven message for the people the Lord has entrusted to them as pastors,” explained Hughey.

Worship will be led by Jon Skelley and the worship ministry of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church, Little Rock.

Hughey encourages all Arkansas Baptist pastors to attend the Pastors’ Conference. “I think the strain of pastoral ministry requires some time to ‘come away for a while.’ We need refreshing times. We need time to be sharpened. The Pastors’ Conference will be both encouraging and challenging,” he said.

2019 ABSC Pastors’ Conference officers are Hughey; Jarvis Smith, pastor, Second Baptist Church, West Helena, vice president, and Scott Miller, associational missionary, Faulkner Baptist Association, Conway, secretary/treasurer.
