Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief (DR) recently wrapped up relief efforts in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Since being deployed to serve in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, Arkansas Baptist DR volunteers have been in Louisiana for a total of 63 days. They served in a wide variety of ways including Incident Command, communications, assessment, chaplaincy, shower and laundry, chainsaw and feeding teams.
Randy Garrett, ABSC Director of Disaster Relief, praised the tireless efforts of the state’s faithful DR volunteers. “Once again Arkansas volunteers stood up through the storm,” Garrett said. “The attitude of serving in the time of need is a tradition for Arkansas DR.” Eighteen different teams served in Louisiana with many of the volunteers making multiple trips.
The following is an excerpt from a letter that Garrett recently sent to all volunteers thanking them for their time of service.
Thank you to everyone who deployed to Lake Charles and to those who prayed for Disaster Relief during that time! Because of your service and prayer, Arkansas Baptists had the opportunity to:
- Serve 194,445 meals
- Help with tree removal at 166 homes
- Provide 2,832 showers and wash 1,055 loads of laundry
- Minister to 1,710 individuals
- Distribute 495 Bibles
- And lead 242 individuals to saving faith!
We praise God for the work that He accomplished through the many men and women who serve as DR volunteers.
