LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On May 22, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released guidelines “for consideration for communities of faith” to follow as many states began to reopen.
Some of these suggestions were to highly encourage practicing healthy hygiene,
wearing masks and practicing social distancing. It was also reiterated that these are
merely suggestions that are strongly encouraged but are not mandated by the
government per the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of
1993.
These guidelines came the same day that President Trump called houses of worship
“essential” and called on governors “to allow our churches and places of worship to
open right now” or he’d “override” their decisions.
