Pastoral Job Description

Fairfield Bay Baptist Church

The Senior Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader of Fairfield Bay Baptist Church, providing biblical preaching, pastoral care, administrate leadership, and missional direction. The pastor must demonstrate sincere spiritual maturity, strong biblical teaching, compassion for people, and a shepherd’s heart.
The pastor will work within the structure, doctrine and ministries of the Southern Baptist Convention while helping the church reach multiple generations through faithful preaching and personal involvement.

Qualifications:
• A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a call to pastoral ministry with experience preferred.
• Seminary degree preferred (MDiv or equivalent), but not mandatory.
• Agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate scripture effectively and clearly.
• A pastor’s wife who is supportive, sociable, and actively involved in ministry would be helpful but not required.
• Reside within the general area of Fairfield Bay (within 15 miles) preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
a. Preaching and Teaching:
i. Prepare and deliver biblical, Spirit-led sermons each week.
ii. Provide doctrinally sound teaching for all ages.
iii. Lead the church toward spiritual maturity and Christ-Centered living.

b. Pastoral Care:
i. Visit and minister to sick, home-bound, and grieving members.
ii. Provide counseling for individuals, marriages, and families.
iii. Know members personally and maintain a visible, approachable presence.
iv. Show care and concern for individuals and families in need.

c. Leadership & Administration:
i. Provide leadership for the church’s ministries, committees, and staff.
ii. Work collaboratively with deacons and lay leaders.
iii. Protect the pulpit and ensure services and ministries align with scripture.
iv. Maintain a strong personal life of study, prayer, and spiritual example.

d. Worship & Music Support:
i. Work with worship leadership to ensure Christ-centered worship services.
ii. Encourage variety in Sunday music while honoring tradition.
iii. Support a blended worship style (choir + selective praise & worship).

e. Outreach & Community Engagement:
i. Visit prospective members and new families in the community.
ii. Promote community-wide faith events and evangelism.
iii. Represent the church well in local and SBC-related activities.

f. Vision & Direction:
i. Cast a clear, biblical vision for the church’s future.
ii. Lead the church in fulfilling its mission to make disciples and discipling.
iii. Promote prayer and spiritual renewal.

Personal Expectations:
a. Live above reproach, maintaining integrity in all areas of life.
b. Engage with members beyond the pulpit.
c. Display a servant’s mentality – serve with love, humility, and diligence.
d. Demonstrate cooperation and respect for church heritage and SBC identity.

Employment Details:
a. Salary and benefits package will be determined by the Personnel Committee, Finance Committee and the Pastor Search Committee with final Church approval.
b. Full-time pastoral role with expectations of weekly service planning, meetings, ministry involvement, and community presence.
