Messengers to the 2021 SBC Annual Meeting approved a broad resolution on the Bible’s sufficiency regarding race and racial reconciliation Tuesday (June 15) but chose not to address specifically the contentious issue of critical race theory.
Messengers resoundingly defeated a change to the SBC Business and Financial Plan proposed by the convention’s Executive Committee.Critics said the proposal would have granted the EC too much authority and left the six SBC seminaries in trouble with accreditors.

All of those dealt not only with subjects such as racial reconciliation and sexual abuse, but a Convention still divided over how to approach them.

Saying they faced a defining moment, the “most important crossroads” in a generation, departing SBC President J.D. Greear challenged Southern Baptists to hear the concerns of the entire body while unifying around the one true Gospel and the Great Commission.
