ABDR teams deploy to Oklahoma

MORRIS, Okla. – Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief (ABDR) is deploying to Morris, Oklahoma.

Five teams from First Baptist Church in Clarksville, First Baptist Church in Russellville, Cross Church and Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro were scheduled to travel to Morris, located roughly 50 miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, May 2. Deployment is expected to be at least one week. The teams include chainsaw and box ministry units, chaplains and assessors.

As of Wednesday afternoon, ABDR Director Randy Garrett said they have received 48 work requests.

The deployment comes after a potent April storm system produced an outbreak of at least 27 tornadoes and other severe weather April 27-28 in Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service. The most powerful of which tore through Holdenville, Marietta and Sulphur.

The ABDR teams, comprising 20-25 volunteers, will be headquartered at Trinity Baptist Church in Morris.

Please continue to pray for those impacted as they navigate the days ahead and all Disaster Relief volunteers.
