[Perspective] More than a ministry

When most people think of a church, they think of ‘Church’— worship services, Sunday school classes, youth programs, and community outreach. Every church is also a nonprofit organization, an employer, and a legal entity with trustees or directors who carry important legal and financial responsibilities. Recognizing this reality helps leaders manage the church with wisdom, integrity, and foresight.

CP Share: Kid’s Ministry: Driving It Home

Driving my son to school one morning a few years ago, my five-year-old stated, “Mommy, do bad guys do bad things because they do not know Jesus?” I replied, “Yes you have it right—bad guys do bad things because they don’t know Jesus, but God has given us the task to share Jesus with them.” After pondering for a moment, my son replied back, “Mommy, I think I may be too scared to do that, but we could make a big sign and put it up.”

[Bible, Ministry & More] The Benefit of Right Theology

I want to share four beliefs about God that help me stay grounded during the uncertain moments of life. These beliefs provide a solid foundation to build my life upon. As I type them out, I am reminded that these truths cover or touch every area of life. From the moment of our birth to the moment we go home to be with Jesus, we are safe in God’s loving and all sufficient hand.

[Bible, Ministry & More] Be all in like Mary: A deeper look at the mother of Jesus

My oldest son turns 30 this month and I don’t know if that’s what got me thinking about Mary and her role as a mother. I had honestly never considered her life after Jesus ascended. I was recently reading in Acts 1 and as I read verse 14, it struck me that here’s Mary, mother of Jesus, present and accounted for along with the 120 other believers. You might think she would be ready for a break. I mean the woman has been a solid, selfless servant for her entire life up to this point. But what do we see in this often overlooked passage in Acts 1?

The key to satisfaction

Mick Jagger, the lead singer for the secular rock band the Rolling Stones, recorded a hit song bemoaning the pursuit of and failure to discover what he refers to as “satisfaction” over 50 years ago. “I can’t get no satisfaction, ‘cause I try and I try and I try and I try,” is repeated over and over all to no avail according to the writer. Apparently, this driving passion and its elusiveness strikes a chord with millions of listeners as the song has become a cultural icon since its release in 1965.

[Bible, Ministry & More] Historical Reliability: Creation

The purpose of this book is simple. I want to show how modern science, in various guises, can address and is addressing the question why there is something rather than nothing: The answers that have been obtained—from staggeringly beautiful experimental observations, as well as from the theories that underline much of modern physics—all suggest that getting something from nothing is not a problem. Indeed, something from nothing may have been required for the universe to come into being. Moreover, all signs suggest that this is how our universe could have arisen.[1]
