GOSNELL – Gosnell Baptist Church started a new ministry this summer – free sack lunches for Gosnell residents.

The church is providing the lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday through Aug. 5. The simple sack lunch includes a sandwich, chips, cookies, and packaged fruit as well as information about Gosnell Baptist Church.

Residents can simply drop in at the church, 603 State Hwy. 181, for the lunch or have the lunch delivered. Those who come to the church are asked to use the doors under the covered awning on the north side, facing the high school. A form is available on the Gosnell Baptist Church Facebook page to request a free sack lunch.

“We are just trying to figure out how we can care for our community in simple and effective ways,’ said Pastor Steven Blaney. “The hope is for our community to know that we love them. We want to meet needs and help out where we can. We want to care for our community. We do see the needs in our community, and we want to help the best we can.”

Furthermore, the church hopes this ministry will produce opportunities to share the Gospel with Gosnell residents.

“We have several teachers in our church, and they know there is a need in our community for students to have lunches. We’re providing this temporary need because God has blessed us to do that but we’re hoping to share with them the greatest need that we all have and that is the need for Christ. That has been our prayer. That this will lead to Gospel conversations and lead to people coming to know Jesus. We’re not trying to force that. We’re just simply caring for people right now and praying that the Holy Spirit will lead us to those conversations,” Blaney said.
