Dr. Rex Horne is beginning the process of transitioning out of the role of Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC) executive director.
During the Operating Committee meeting on Monday, March 31, Horne requested they begin the process of finding his successor as executive director. Horne was named executive director in October 2023.

“I am enjoying every day, enjoying good health, and still have strong vision. The truth is I cannot imagine a better time to bring a new leader into this responsibility. I work with a competent and committed team. The communication is clear, transparency is evident, and we are positioned to meet the needs of Arkansas Baptist churches. We are in good shape financially. We are focused on the future and thankful for God’s blessing in the past,” Horne said.
The Operating Committee serves as both the Personnel Committee and the Search Committee for executive directors and makes its recommendation to the Executive Board. Information on the search process will be forthcoming from the Operating Committee.
While there is no definitive timeline in place, Horne anticipates that the transition will take place by the end of the year.
“I have work to do before this transition is complete. Much of it will culminate when we make some important decisions at our annual meeting in October. We have plenty of time to talk, plan, and pray together. At that time, I will pass three years in this office and will take with me experiences I will reflect on for the rest of my life and ministry,” Horne said. “I cannot thank you enough for the privilege of serving during these days of challenge and opportunity. I will be a better Arkansas Baptist after seeing our vast and important ministries up close.”
Please be praying for the Operating Committee as they begin the search.
