At Williams Baptist University, we are breaking new ground in Christian higher education with the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Business. Starting this fall, students—whether recent high school graduates or adults seeking workforce training—will have the opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world training in one of the most vital sectors in Arkansas—agriculture.
This innovative program is not only a response to regional workforce needs but also a bold step forward in equipping a new generation of leaders with the tools, knowledge, and spiritual foundation to thrive in the agribusiness industry.
Agriculture is vitally important for our state, and we are working to support the growth and viability of this industry by strategically equipping future Christian leaders for their lifework in agri-business with an academically exceptional, practically relevant, Christ-centered education.
A Unique Path for Traditional Students
For students seeking a four-year degree in agriculture business, we will offer a distinctive Christian academic experience. Our degree will blend classroom instruction with real-world applications, giving students access to high-quality training in agri-business, technology, and science—all within a biblical worldview.
Courses will include plant science, animal science, soil science, entomology, and agri-mechanics, supplemented by a robust foundation in business through courses in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and technology. The program will also include cutting-edge instruction in precision agriculture, a rapidly growing field that uses data analytics and advanced technology to optimize farm productivity.
After meeting with agriculture professionals and leaders throughout our region, we have designed a program that meets the growing demand for workers who can operate in high-tech agricultural environments. Our programs are tailored to meet this need.
Hands-On Experience at Eagle Farms

What truly sets WBU’s program apart is the level of hands-on, practical experience available through our Eagle Farms initiative. Developed as part of the Williams Works program, Eagle Farms will provide a working classroom where students can apply what they learn in real time.
The farm includes a produce operation, an organic egg production facility, and a meat processing plant. These are not simulated environments—they are fully operational enterprises that prepare students for the challenges and complexities of modern agricultural work. Whether students come from a farming background or are exploring agribusiness for the first time, they will leave WBU equipped with both knowledge and experience. This is a truly integrated approach that will combine classroom learning with real-world experience, rooted in our Christ-centered mission.
Opportunity for Non-Traditional Students
In addition to the bachelor’s degree, we will also provide certificate programs in agriculture and agriculture related fields. We believe this to be a much-needed opportunity for adult learners and non-traditional students. These programs are designed for individuals who may not be pursuing a full four-year degree but still want to gain the skills and credentials necessary for careers in agriculture.
Whether it’s for someone seeking a second career or a family farmer looking to expand his or her skillset, these certificates will provide targeted training that will lead directly to workforce readiness. The certificate programs will be accessible, affordable, and responsive to the real-world demands of agriculture in Arkansas and beyond.
Training the Next Generation of Family Farmers
Family farming remains the backbone of rural communities across Arkansas, and our new agribusiness offerings are created with these families in mind. We recognize that many students want to return to the family farm—but with a modern skillset that includes data management, animal health, land stewardship, and business operations. WBU will equip these future farmers not only to carry on a family legacy but to innovate, grow, and lead in the ag industry.
As Dr. Rhyne Putman, our Vice President for Academic Affairs, rightly noted, “We are excited to be one of the only Christian universities in the nation to offer a degree in agriculture. This degree and related certificate programs don’t just prepare students to work the land, but to manage it, improve it, and steward it wisely—all while holding to a Christ-centered calling built upon biblical, theological foundations.”
Powered by Strategic Investment
This visionary program was made possible by a $1.9 million grant from the Arkansas Higher Industry Readiness through Educational Development initiative, announced by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. The grant supports both the bachelor’s degree and the workforce certification programs, allowing WBU to provide appropriate learning environments as well as hands-on training opportunities.
We are honored to collaborate with Governor Sanders in equipping the future workforce of our state and surrounding region. This program represents more than just academic achievement—it reflects a sense of purpose. Our students are being shaped to impact the world through the meaningful lifework God calls them to pursue.
Williams Works: Tuition-Free Opportunity
An added benefit for these students is the Williams Works initiative, which allows participants to work part-time on campus or in the community in exchange for full tuition and student service fees. Students can also work during the summer to cover room and board, making this one of the most affordable Christian higher education experiences available today.
Students in agribusiness may work directly in Eagle Farms, gaining relevant experience while funding their education. This innovative model not only can eliminate student debt, but it also strengthens the connection between work and learning—especially important in an industry where practical skills are essential.
Williams Baptist University’s Agriculture Business degree is more than just another college program—it’s a mission-driven opportunity for students of all backgrounds to enter a vital industry with purpose, preparation, and faith.
