Arkadelphia, Ark. – Super Summer Arkansas recently wrapped up on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University, where numerous students made life changing decisions for Jesus.
The annual camp, sponsored by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, focuses on evangelism and discipleship for students. It is split into two camps: Super Summer JV, serving campers who have completed sixth through eighth grade, and Super Summer, serving campers who have completed ninth through 12th grade.
Between the JV and senior high, almost 3,000 students and staffers were led in worship each night by Cory and Stephanie Epps and camp speaker Ed Newton. During the day, students were led by youth ministers from all over Arkansas in “schools” where they drilled deep into the curriculum. Staffers utilized small group time to help students apply what they were learning in practical ways. Students also participated in recreation, comprised of a series of team-building games.
“We have a strong evangelistic element,” said Next Gen and Discipleship Strategist Bill Newton of the Evangelism + Church Health Team, noting they write their own curriculum and are very “intentional” to carry the theme all throughout camp. Additionally, he said there is always a response time – something he has grown to love about the camp.
Throughout the week, June 21-28, organizers recorded 67 salvations. Additionally, there were 47 recommitments to Christ, 37 calls to the ministry and 47 other decisions.
Due to the high interest in Super Summer, which sold out within four days this year, Newton said they announced that in 2027 the camp will expand to two weeks. This will allow them to accommodate more students and churches interested in the Super Summer Arkansas experience.
