PARON, Ark. – Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief (ABDR) does more than just respond to disasters.
For instance, this week, an ABDR chainsaw crew can be found at Camp Paron cutting down trees that are either diseased or too close to the buildings. The request came from Camp Manager Andrew Campbell. He reached out to ABDR, they worked out the scheduling and found a time on the calendar that worked for everyone.
ABDR Director Randy Garrett said they already had an advance chainsaw training scheduled at the camp, so it worked out well.
“We’re helping the camp. We’re getting a lot of trees down so that when the kids come here there won’t be any obstacles for them,” ABDR Director Randy Garrett said. “We enjoy doing this.”
The crew had about 100 trees marked to be cut down. Campbell said they will stack the viable wood and use it for the fireplace at the lodge and the fire rings around camp.
