SPRING, Texas – Arkansas Baptist Disaster Relief (ABDR) teams deployed over the weekend to Spring, Texas, to aid the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention’s response to the devastation caused by fast-moving thunderstorms that hit the area late last week.
According to reports, at least seven people died as destructive winds and torrential rain blasted through Houston, Texas. More than 500,000 homes were without power.
As of Sunday, ABDR set up a command center for the area. Beginning Monday and Tuesday, feeding, assessor and chaplain teams will be on site. Additionally, recovery teams will be arriving in the middle of the week.
ABDR Director Randy Garrett said they will be sending more teams over the next several weeks.
