ABSC Communications Team, ABN win big at annual communicators conference

RIDGECREST, N.C. – The communications team of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC) and Arkansas Baptist News this week traveled to Ridgecrest, North Carolina, to attend the annual Baptist Communicators Association (BCA) Conference.

BCA is a nationwide group made up of Southern Baptist communication professionals from Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) agencies, state conventions, Baptist newspapers, and Baptist universities.  Each year, this group gathers for a conference consisting of workshops and the annual awards ceremony.

This year, the group gathered on the campus of Ridgecrest Conference Center to hear from keynote speakers like Darrel Girardier, director of communications for Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville, and Ed Herrelko, vice president of marketing and communications for the International Mission Board. Breakout sessions ranging from “Cross Training for Success” by Carrie McWhorter and Dianna Cagle of TAB Media, “Telling the Untold Stories” by Sonya Singh of California Baptist University and more were offered throughout the four-day event.

On Wednesday, April 19, the ABSC Communications Team and the ABN were presented with nine awards, including the Arthur S. Davenport Award, given for exceptional achievement in public relations and achievement, for Dixie Jackson Arkansas Missions Offering & Week of Prayer, during the annual Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition banquet.

“It’s an honor for our team to be recognized for their creativity and hard work, but we all know the purpose of Dixie Jackson is not to win an award. State missions is an important part of what we do at the ABSC. Our prayer as a team is that the Dixie Jackson promotion and week of prayer would compel Arkansas Baptists to get involved in what God is doing in Arkansas through praying, giving and going,” Dixie Jackson Arkansas Missions Offering Project Coordinator Travis McCormick said.

The full list of awards received by the ABSC Communications Team and the ABN is listed below.
