Danny Green named Associational Missionary of the Year

LITTLE ROCK – Danny Green is “well-respected in his association and is truly a pastor to pastors. Danny’s heart is for every church reaching their God-given potential. He is a champion of pastors, missions and community evangelism.”

Those are just a few of the words of encouragement provided by Green’s colleagues that Ouachita Baptist University (OBU) President Dr. Ben Sells shared while recognizing him as Associational Missionary of the Year.

Green was also described as someone who knows what it is like to pastor smaller churches and how to lead them to growth as well as relate to pastors and laypeople of larger churches.

Green is heavily invested in associational church camps, missions trips, annual Sunday school workshops and a thriving block party ministry. He serves his entire ministry without significant fanfare or recognition.

The award, which was presented Tuesday during a banquet at the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, recognizes Green’s dedication to serve and his partnership with the convention. OBU provided and sponsored Tuesday’s dinner and annually presents the award to an associational missionary.

Danny Green shares a few words after being announced Associational Missionary of the Year.

“Thank you very much for the recognition,” Green told those in attendance. “There is not one thing about church work that I don’t absolutely love, from the fall festivals to preaching to the whole thing.”

Green traced joy of the ministry back to 1992 when he began serving at First Baptist Church in London, Arkansas. He and two friends in the ministry hit the association on the same day. They sat by each other and had a fun time.

“We started when we were fairly young … and the way I phrase it is no one told us you weren’t supposed to have fun in the ministry, so we did. We loved it and we loved our people and that has bled over into the association work that we do,” Green said. “I have been such a believer and supporter of associations since day one and I appreciate getting to work with you guys because I do believe we’ve got the best group ever.”

Green and his wife, Teresa, live in London, where he served for 23 years as senior pastor at First Baptist Church, before taking on the associational missionary role in 2015 with the Arkansas River Valley Baptist Association. He attended Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary.
