SEARCY, Ark. – Members of the Arkansas Master’Singers were recently given what Arkansas Baptist State Convention Worship Consultant Jim Daniel called a “unique opportunity” to share the Gospel.
Comprised of ministers of music/worship leaders, directors, accompanists, choir leaders, pastors, staff members and staff spouses from Arkansas Baptist churches across the state, the group typically performs at churches or related events. On Monday, however, the Arkansas Master’Singers performed at the White County Fair in Searcy.
With the brightly lit rides along the midway serving as a backdrop, the group attracted fairgoers of all ages with its powerful performance.
“At the beginning of last season, we began praying that God would give us some unique opportunities to carry the Gospel. We are always focused on leading in church and we want to continue that, but we just began to pray that He would give us opportunities outside of the church,” Daniel said. “As we were praying, opportunities began to open.”
Daniel said the “unique opportunity” to worship and share the Gospel at the fair was exactly what they were praying for.
“As we are praying, God is answering the prayer and giving us opportunities to share,” he said. “This will be the first time, as far as I know, we’ve ever done anything quite like this.”
This opportunity came about through a connection at First Baptist Church in Searcy. Minister of Music/Worship Taylor Keenen, who will serve the next concert season as the men’s chorus president, said the church hosted an Arkansas Master’Singers concert in February. In attendance was a church member who also happens to serve on the White County Fair Board. She asked if the singers would be interested in performing at the fair.
“Jim has really had it on his heart for a while for us to not be a group that sings just for our churches, but one that sings to our communities. In our communities, out here at the fair, this is where people need to hear about Jesus,” Keenen said.
