Sara Smith knew that Williams Baptist University was where she wanted to attend, but neither she nor her family knew how they could afford it until a bold new initiative at the school opened an opportunity no one saw coming.
Driving my son to school one morning a few years ago, my five-year-old stated, “Mommy, do bad guys do bad things because they do not know Jesus?” I replied, “Yes you have it right—bad guys do bad things because they don’t know Jesus, but God has given us the task to share Jesus with them.” After pondering for a moment, my son replied back, “Mommy, I think I may be too scared to do that, but we could make a big sign and put it up.”

Pursuing Gospel-centered community among do-it-yourself pioneers might seem like an inefficient evangelism method, but in Grand Junction, Colorado, the art of neighboring has proven itself effective in the life of River City Church.
Since Easter 2019, 18 people have been baptized, and many who have been far from God are finding new purpose in Christ. And among the core team that has been mobilized from First Baptist Russellville many are already discovering a purpose for which The Church in the Dirt is serving as a training ground.
