We desperately need to equip more ministers if we want to replace the countless number currently retiring or leaving the ministry for a myriad of other reasons.

In nature, what we know as a gift from our Creator has also been connected to mental health benefits through many years of research.

Essentially doctrine is what the Bible says regarding a specific issue or stance.

If you are a follower of Christ, you carry a deep longing for MORE. More of Christ—more of His presence, His will, His voice, His direction. More fruit and effectiveness; more life change for you and those around you. More revival and spiritual awakening.

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” -Luke 1:47

We learned that you have to take it a day at a time. You make it through the current day, and then you start over the next day.

Given the critical nature of the resurrection, it shouldn’t be surprising that it has received considerable pushback over the last 2,000 years.

If you are going to be successful as a number two leader, you must know who you are in Christ and what God has called you to do.

We are the ones who choose whether or not we will take the initiative and make the effort to read our Bible, pray, and grow up in spiritual maturity.

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be called Holy—the Son of God.”

We really can experience the freedom of Jesus Christ. The freedom of knowing that He loves us. The freedom of knowing that He has a plan for our lives.

God gave us this body, and we are to be good stewards of everything that God gives us.

God always shows up. He is “…a very present help IN trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 KJV).

When someone brings up the subject of the annual Arkansas Baptist State Convention (ABSC) meeting, what comes to your mind? Too long? Too boring? Waste of time? Not for me? You might add others. But for me, I am

God’s spoken words have Holy Spirit power.

Over the last several articles, I have been defending the historical reliability of Sacred Scripture. As noted before, this is no small task given that

When we choose to abide in God’s commandments and love wholeheartedly, we experience His power working through us and bear much fruit in our lives.

Deacons have been some of my best friends in ministry.

In 1896, two young archeologists happened upon some of the most significant archeological finds of the 20th century: early fragments of the New Testament and early writings of the Christian faith.

Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.

I want to share four beliefs about God that help me stay grounded during the uncertain moments of life. These beliefs provide a solid foundation to build my life upon. As I type them out, I am reminded that these truths cover or touch every area of life. From the moment of our birth to the moment we go home to be with Jesus, we are safe in God’s loving and all sufficient hand.

At 83 years of age, I am still working part time for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

My oldest son turns 30 this month and I don’t know if that’s what got me thinking about Mary and her role as a mother. I had honestly never considered her life after Jesus ascended. I was recently reading in Acts 1 and as I read verse 14, it struck me that here’s Mary, mother of Jesus, present and accounted for along with the 120 other believers. You might think she would be ready for a break. I mean the woman has been a solid, selfless servant for her entire life up to this point. But what do we see in this often overlooked passage in Acts 1?

Have you found yourself in a tight spot? A place where you are experiencing stress to the point you are unsure of the next step to take? This tight spot may be a result of circumstances you brought on yourself or a situation God is allowing to help you move on with the things of God.

Without a doubt, your pastor needs support and encouragement. Having served in the ministry for 60+ years, I can tell you that I have always appreciated lay people who encouraged me on a regular basis.

As a nine-year-old girl I walked the aisle during children’s church at First Baptist Church of Rogers and was baptized into the saving grace of Jesus. I have vivid memories of our whole congregation gathered in a circle around the sanctuary every Sunday night at the close of evening service, hands joined, voices raised, singing the chorus “We are One in the Bond of Love” in faith together.

The purpose of this book is simple. I want to show how modern science, in various guises, can address and is addressing the question why there is something rather than nothing: The answers that have been obtained—from staggeringly beautiful experimental observations, as well as from the theories that underline much of modern physics—all suggest that getting something from nothing is not a problem. Indeed, something from nothing may have been required for the universe to come into being. Moreover, all signs suggest that this is how our universe could have arisen.[1]

On April 18, 2021, our nation recorded a vaccine milestone with 50.4% of adults being vaccinated. At first glance, this is a great thing that needs to be celebrated, regardless of how you feel about the vaccines.

I have seen and experienced many cases of conflict in my 60+ years in ministry. Some of these conflicts have been between individuals, some have been between leaders and groups of people…

In ministry, we can become so used to a routine, to a plan that has been set in motion, and ministry that happens the same way with the same methods and the same people.

Probably one of the most popular counters to the historical reliability of Scripture is atheism.

Somewhere along the way, I began to understand the need for building trust among those I was trying to lead and even in my relationships with others.

As I looked at Jake’s project, I had no idea what to say. I wanted to find something positive, but I was at a loss for words. Honestly, I had no idea what the picture was.

Being eighty-three years old and in the ministry for over sixty years, I often wonder if I would do things differently if I were able to start over.

The world tells girls and young women to seek empowerment and self-fulfillment in their own strength. It is vital for us to point them to God’s Word and what He says about women in the metanarrative of Scripture.

The Christian dependence upon the reliability and authority of Scripture is paramount in defending the veracity of the Christian faith.

You may think that when you pray, your prayer goes to Jesus who then turns to the Father and relays your prayer to Him. That is not the meaning of intercession. The Heavenly Father doesn’t need hearing aids.

You need a prayer partner. This is so important that Jesus makes the point twice in two verses.

My question to you is this: Are you willing to do the hard work of prayer?

Instead of focusing on my “to do” list. I made a different type of list. I opened my Bible and wrote down ten truths that overwhelm me about God.

If you want the power of God in your life, step outside the self-centered society you live in and try to see yourself from His perspective.

As followers of Christ, they are indeed the church now, but they are also the future leadership of the church.

In times of difficulty, we must take our eyes off our problems and look to Jesus.

I’m sure there are multiple reasons for such a distortion of the character of God. One of the most prominent being that a hippy god seems far more likely to ignore my sinful actions.

I began to think about my prayer life and my journey in prayer. It has certainly changed through the years, and I am deeply grateful to God for this journey and His leadership.

When we align our priorities with God’s, His timing for how He intends to purpose our lives for His glory is always perfect. For that season in my life, my main ministry was my family and being available to raise up these young men God had blessed us with. Then God provided me with an opportunity to attend the LifeWay Women Leadership Forum for the first time.

So it might sound a bit strange to claim that God uses suffering for His glory and our benefit, but that is exactly what Scripture shows us. In other words, there is a purpose—of sorts—behind suffering.

So, what does it mean to live as a righteous person? What does it mean – according to Psalm 1 – to pursue God?

These past circumstances can paralyze us. They can cause us to accept less than God’s best. Thankfully the story of Ruth helps us to see the heart of God in the midst of these moments.

I love to think about this line from a favorite Christmas hymn. When I think of hope, it can be a wonderfully dangerous feeling.

There is one issue every Christian must grapple with: suffering. Whether wanted or not, suffering will happen in this life. It isn’t something normal people go looking for, but it is a reality.

As a young adult, I want to encourage those in generations above me: my generation longs for mentorship. We might not initially see the need for discipleship, but young people desire to be encouraged and trained by older people in the faith.

I am strolling through memory lane again. Last month I wrote about changes that affected the way we do church in the last sixty plus years. In this article, I want to share what has motivated me in my ministry and how that changed through the years.

Think how often we ask the question, “Lord, what is your plan for my life?” I love a simple answer! We are to give thanks no matter what is going on in our lives.

As Christians today, how can we look at what Paul prayed for the church at Ephesus, and pray with the same conviction and expectancy for ourselves and those with whom we serve in the church today?

So how can God allow such good people to die so young and tragically?
